Location: Remote

Hiring Range: This position’s hiring range is anticipated to be $140,000 to $170,000 annually, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled.

Summary: This leadership position requires having a proven track record in inspiring and building best in class marketing teams and campaigns with the overall goals to increase awareness, engagement, growth, and support from new audiences for Best Friends. You’ll need to balance building a unified, national brand with being locally relevant in key markets. You’ll lead the planning and execution of an integrated marketing and brand strategy that helps to advance Best Friends’ campaign to end the killing of dogs and cats in U.S. shelters by 2025. You’ll ensure an inclusive perspective that reaches and engages diverse audiences and integrates Best Friends’ multicultural work into the overall strategy. Lead, mentor, and directly oversee national, regional, community, multicultural and brand marketing teams. You will also partner successfully with the digital/social, PR, creative, events, local programs and advocacy teams and serve as a member of the Development, Experience, & Communications (DXC) leadership team. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for education, adaption and execution of our brand platform across the organization.

  • Through a Center of Excellence (COE) model, synchronize marketing at all levels to develop and implement a clearly defined brand/messaging architecture that informs the organization’s marketing strategies and campaigns across marketing disciplines.

  • Create a cohesive, integrated marketing and brand plan that builds additional momentum, measured by SOV, Issue Awareness, Brand Equity and Lifesaving Actions, and expands Best Friends reach, influence and support at the national level and in key markets. Develop targeted and tailored strategies for new and existing audiences, centered around our enterprise segments, that influence consumer behavior to increase pet lifesaving and support programmatic priorities; ensure brand and voice consistency and cross-cultural impact.

  • Inspire an environment of testing and learning, performance, and data orientation through consistent project leadership in collaboration with channel owners, internal stakeholders and external partners.

  • Inform the content/brand marketing and integrated message strategies to reach and activate key audiences and stakeholders, and to increase brand visibility.

  • Utilize data, consumer insights and trends to inform decisions around target audiences, message development and key strategies; work with Business Intelligence team and outside firms to translate market research into strategic marketing and brand campaigns that change public opinion and behavior on critical issues, support development priorities, and help to make Best Friends a household name.

  • Conduct competitive analysis of marketing and brand strategy; track, report and translate metrics into action for impact, growth, and effectiveness. Pay attention to market trends, customer needs, usage, and behaviors to size market opportunities and stay ahead of demand.

  • Guide the implementation of systems and tools that help to scale work and impact, maximize resources and create greater operational efficiencies.

  • Direct and guide Paid, Earned, Shared and Owned (PESO) media planning for brand awareness, fundraising and lifesaving campaigns that maximize resources and impact, and ladders up with other media buys happening across the organization.

  • Work to find new ways for increasing influence and visibility of the organization and to realign resources to pursue new opportunities as appropriate.

  • Work closely with senior staff, leadership, and cross functional teams to identify opportunities and challenges; provide strong, positive, visible leadership to teams to inspire staff to perform at the highest levels, and to represent the goals, progress, and achievements.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong marketing and brand strategy experience that includes building brand and messaging architectures, and a keen understanding of consumers, their lifestyles, and online behavior.

  • Proven success and experience with developing and implementing cross-cultural marketing campaigns.

  • Deep understanding of digital landscape including existing and emerging channels, and trendspotting to enhance and increase outreach, brand recognition and reputation.

  • Data-driven, ROI-obsessed and continuously testing to refine tactics used across marketing campaigns, outreach efforts and in support of audience growth, engagement, and revenue generation.

  • Demonstrated understanding of marketing technology and analytics, including the roles of online and offline communications.

  • Excellent organizational and project leadership skills with proven ability to juggle the details and the big picture.

  • Leadership experience setting up smart streamlined structures, processes, and workflows in cross functional environments.

  • Agency experience with competing priorities and high commitment to customer satisfaction and delivery.
